Chelsea considering swoop for City target Mouctar Diakhaby

Lyon centre back Mouctar Diakhaby has caught the eye of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte according to the Daily Mail.

The France U21 international has been involved with a Lyon side that currently sit third in Ligue 1 going into the international break. He is yet to be on the losing side in his six appearances this season for Les Gones, bagging a goal in their 3-3 draw with SCO Angers. He has also helped Lyon to qualify for the next stage of the Europa League with two games to spare.

Scouts from Manchester City and Juventus are already monitoring the 20-year old’s progress after his good start in both domestic and European competitions. Standing at 6ft 4ins, Diakhaby could provide some defensive stature to any team that he joins.

Despite a very important win and clean sheet against Manchester United at the weekend, Chelsea’s goal difference is still worse off than the other three teams who occupy the top four with them. The addition of another tall and composed defender, who has the ability to score the odd goal, could help The Blues to tighten up their defence which could be the difference between being able to catch pace setters City and falling too far behind.

If Chelsea were able to acquire the defender ahead of City, it would show a real intent by Conte to fix the team’s defensive issues as well as boosting his squad.
