Don’t let the scoreline fool you, the win over Watford at Stamford Bridge is not what you would call ‘a 4-2 game’.
Watford were very much in the game, and threatened to take control when Abdoulaye Doucoure levelled up play just before half-time. The timing of that goal would have played on Chelsea’s minds psychologically as they went into the dressing rooms, after a quite average performance.
In truth, the Blue’s last three games have not shown many signs of the title-winning Chelsea of last season. Their shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace (who lost their opening six games of the season) knocked Chelsea’s spirits, and clearly so.
They narrowly survived an Edin Dzeko-inspired comeback from Roma in the Champions League and throwing away a lead and dropping points is becoming a increasing problem for Antonio Conte’s men, who risk dropping further afield away from the likes of the two Manchester clubs and Tottenham at the top of the table.
They come up this weekend against Bournemouth, a side also showing struggles as they sit firmly in the relegation zone.
