Chelsea face a tough trip to Wembley on Sunday, where they will face Tottenham in what will be Spurs’ first home game at their temporary ground.
After the almost unbelieveable result against Burnley, the Blues will be hoping to prove that the defeat last week was no more than a freak result, rather than the beginning of a crisis at the club. Spurs, however, will be full of confidence going into the game, after a comfortable 2-0 victory at Newcastle.
Despite the negativity surrounding the club in recent weeks, Antonio Conte seemed extremely upbeat in his pre-match press conference, hysterically laughing off claims that Diego Costa had been treated like a criminal. The Italian also mentioned that new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko may finally feature on Sunday, and that Eden Hazard is extremely close to being match fit. However, Pedro is a serious doubt, after having only one training session in which is ankle was still causing him problems. Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill are both suspended.
With the Chelsea squad wearing relatively thin, it seems as if it will be an uphill task for the Blues on Sunday, and what side Conte picks will be crucial in trying to gain the upper hand, and creating a positive atmosphere around the club.
Here is how we expect Chelsea to line up tomorrow!
GK – Thibaut Courtois
The Belgian was arguably at fault for the first goal against Burnley. His performance on Sunday will have to be immaculate for Chelsea to stand a chance of picking up three points.
RWB – Victor Moses
After missing the Burnley game through suspension, it will be back to normality, with Moses returning to the right wing back position.
CB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Azpilicueta is clearly not a wing back, and will surely be played in his trusted right centre-back position.
CB – David Luiz
Despite reports of the Brazilian moving to central cidfield in this game, I think that Luiz is too crucial in the sweeper role for the side.
CB – Antonio Rudiger
His promising performance against Burnley was overshadowed by the result, and I believe he will get the nod over Andreas Christensen.
LWB – Marcos Alonso
The only left wing-back at the club right now, and will almost certainly start against Tottenham.
CM – N’Golo Kante
With squad depth being so poor, the Frenchman is the only senior midfielder available and fully fit on Sunday, and will be crucial to the Blues.
CM – Tiemoue Bakayoko
Although it is a major risk playing him, Conte does not have a real choice, and I think we will finally see the new man in action.
RW – Willian
Was very good against Burnley and with a shortage of quality in that position, he will definitely start.
LW – Jeremie Boga
Was unfortunate to be substituted off after the Gary Cahill red card, and hopefully Conte will give the youngster the chance he deserves on Sunday.
ST – Alvaro Morata
Had a massive influence when he came on last week, and his presence and technical ability will be crucial to Chelsea’s attacking threat against Spurs.
