Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has hinted that the La Liga side will not look to try and re-sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa this summer, the Evening Standard reports.
Costa is desperate for a move back to Atletico this summer after Chelsea informed the striker in January that he was surplus to requirements.
However, Atletico Madrid are yet to come close to matching Chelsea’s £50million price tag for the striker.
Atletico are unable to register any new players until January 2018 due to their ongoing transfer ban, but Costa would still be able to agree a deal in principle to join the club when the ban expires.
After Atletico’s 3 -2 win against Brighton over the weekend, Simeone hinted that the club may not re-sign Costa:
I don’t want to comment too much. The fact is he is still with Chelsea. When I found there was no other possibility to get new players at the club I accepted it.
Serie A side AC Milan have also held talks with Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes this summer over a potential move but Costa has his heart set on a return to Atletic Madrid.
