Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard suffers broken ankle

The Belgian Football Association have confirmed that Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has broken his ankle whilst training with the Belgium National Team.

On Sunday nigh,t the Belgian FA tweeted “Medical imaging showed that Eden Hazard has a fracture in his right ankle” after he twisted it earlier in the day during training.

Hazard will now miss Belgium’s friendly game against the Czech Republic on Monday, as well as their World Cup qualifier against Estonia on June 9th.

The Guardian reports that the forward is expected to be out for six to eight weeks, meaning he could miss the start of next season.

Hazard had been persistently linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, but the injury now looks set to end any chance of a potential deal going through.

Hazard was one of Antonio Conte’s key players as Chelsea lifted the Premier League title, scoring 17 goals in 43 games for the Blues.
