Chelsea romped home to a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough and are now just three points away from the Premier League title.
The Blues were in scintillating attacking form from the off, coming close to opening the scoring within just one minute when Marcos Alonso’s shot deflected off the crossbar. The cross field ball to Alonso was constantly utilised as Middlesbrough right-back Fabio left acres of space out wide for the Spaniard. The deadlock was eventually broken when Cesc Fabregas chipped the ball towards Diego Costa via a Fabio deflection, who brought the cross down and slid the ball under Brad Guzan.
Chelsea continued to press and came close through a Victor Moses cross into the six-yard box that went unfinished before Alonso got on the score sheet as he somehow snuck his shot past Guzan at the near post in similar circumstances to his shot that hit the bar.
In the second half, Chelsea could’ve added to their tally twice in a minute as they once again hit the woodwork, this time through Pedro. A more than deserved third and final goal came from an unlikely source, as Nemanja Matic chested down a sumptuous Fabregas chip before firing under the legs of Guzan – the third time the American goalkeeper had been beaten by a nutmeg in the game.
Chelsea now travel to West Brom looking for a win that will bring the title back to Stamford Bridge.
