Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to ten points, after playing out a hard fought 1-1 draw with Burnley.
Unlike previous games, Chelsea started brightly and raced into a one goal lead when Pedro neatly swept home from Victor Moses’ cutback. But despite continuing to dominate possession, the Blues couldn’t add to their advantage and were subsequently pegged back when new signing Robbie Brady curled in an exquisite free-kick – the first direct free-kick Chelsea have conceded since 2013.
Matthew Lowton nearly gave Burnley a surprise lead, with Thibaut Courtois expertly saving low down from the right-back. Michael Keane marshalled his defence superbly throughout the second-half, and as a result, Chelsea failed to muster a single shot on target. Andre Gray then tested Courtois again, firing straight at the Belgian when one-on-one.
Chelsea now sit ten points clear at the top, but their lead could be cut back to eight if Manchester City beat Bournemouth on Monday night. Burnley meanwhile remain 13th and are now ten points clear of the relegation zone as their formidable home form continues.
