Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino took to the press in the hours leading up to his sides encounter with league leaders Chelsea to express his admiration for in-form striker Diego Costa.
Pochettino was quoted saying: “Diego Costa is a player who you hate when you face him but you love when he is your team-mate,” according to AS.
Costa has been one of the many players to unify and strengthen the rest of the squad in what could be a potential 14-game win streak should things go Chelsea’s way at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
Not only is the Brazilian-born striker leading the west London club to the top of the table, he is consistently putting himself ahead of some of the best striking talents the world of football has to offer. With more goals than Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, Costa leads the pack with fourteen goals.
Pochettino continued with: “He is super competitive, with character and never likes to lose. He is proud and that is what makes him to have that ability to improve every day.”
The Spurs manager was quick to identify one of Costa’s key characteristics in that the reason Costa has the ability to put the ball in the back of the net week in and week out, is because his self-confidence is currently bursting at the seams.
Give a dense, 6ft2″ striker confidence and you have a recipe for success. Let alone surrounding him with players like Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Cesc Fabregas, you have a ruthless, goal-scoring, machine.
The Argentine finished his ovation of recognition in saying: “He transmits to his team-mates the culture of winning, of not being satisfied, of always looking for more. He makes the rest better every day and he is someone anyone would want to have in his team.”
