Another late Diego Costa goal rescued a point for Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium, although Antonio Conte lost his perfect start to the campaign – which has now given Manchester City a two-point lead over the Blues.
Chelsea dominated the opening exchanges and really should have been out of sight by half-time – but with only Costa’s 18th-minute strike separating the two sides at the break, there was always going to be the chance of a Swansea equaliser.
Eden Hazard had an off day against the Swans, missing several gilt-edged opportunities. Whilst Costa was once again lucky not have been sent off.
Despite more dominant play from the Blues at the start of the half, it would be Swansea who’d score next – as a rash challenge from Thibaut Courtois gave Gylfi Sigurdsson the chance to level the game, which he did with ease. That goal also meant that Sigurdsson became the Swans all-time leading Premier League scorer with 26 goals.
Just moments after having conceded the equaliser Gary Cahill was tripped by Leroy Fer, who along with several other Swansea players could’ve been sent off, but Andre Marriner let play continue – subsequently allowing Fer to finish beyond Courtois.
Chelsea began to press for an equaliser, with Costa and Hazard once again guilty of missing clear-cut chances. But with just nine minutes remaining, ‘pantomime villain’ Costa produced a spectacular overhead kick to bring the sides level.
