New signing Marcos Alonso has recently been handed the coveted number three shirt at Chelsea – following his £22 million deadline day move from Fiorentina.
The Spanish full-back will follow in the footsteps of fellow Chelsea left-backs Filipe Luis and Ashley Cole in wearing the number three shirt at Stamford Bridge next season.
Alonso came through the ranks at Real Madrid, before making the move to Bolton Wanderers in 2010. After three years at the club, Alonso then moved to Fiorentina – where he has most notably helped them to a 5th place finish in Serie A. These impressive performances then attracted the attention of Antonio Conte – who splashed out more than £20million for the 25-year-old.
Alonso joined on a busy deadline day for Chelsea – as they spent a further £34million on bringing back the erratic Brazilian centre-back David Luiz, two years after he left for a world record £50million fee, for a defender, to French champions PSG. Luiz was also handed his squad number, being given the number 30 shirt.
