An opening day victory can be the catalyst to a great and successful season, whereas a loss could be the start of a season to forget. In many ways, the first game of the season is one of the most important.
Chelsea start the 2016/17 at home, with London rivals West Ham United the visitors. Antonio Conte’s first taste of Premier League football comes at Stamford Bridge on Monday 15th August.
Interestingly, the last time Chelsea started their season on a Monday, they ended up winning the Premier League title. The 2014/15 season started on a Monday, then the Blues went on to lift the Premier League, and Chelsea fans will be hoping for a repeat of that season under new boss Conte.
