Fed up with Tottenham’s transfer business strategies, recruitment chief Paul Mitchell is reportedly set to leave the club at the end of the transfer window, according to the club’s official website.
Apparently, it was missing out on the signing of Michy Batshuayi that proved to be the last straw for Mitchell. He and his team had their eyes on the Belgian striker for quite some time, and it appeared as though he was set to join Spurs earlier this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

That was until London rivals Chelsea swooped in and signed Batshuayi for £33million from Marseille, locking him up for five years with wages reportedly totalling £125k per week.
A stark difference between the two clubs is their wage brackets; in Tottenham’s the highest paid players earn between £75,000-£80,000 per week. Batshuayi’s £125k per week deal means that he is not even a member of Chelsea’s top-three highest paid players.

Missing out on Batshuayi was not the first time that Spurs have been beaten to a transfer by Chelsea. Famously, three summers ago, Willian was reportedly flown into London and underwent a medical at White Hart Lane before switching over to Stamford Bridge by the end of the transfer window. Fast-forward three seasons later, and the Brazilian is Chelsea’s Player of The Year.

As the end of the transfer window approaches, Mitchell has admitted that he will continue to focus on making sure that Tottenham are ready for the season until it slams shut on 1st September.
