After spending six months at Real Betis last season, Charly Musonda could be staying at the La Liga side for the entirety of next season according to Chelsea scout Piet De Visser.
De Visser told Belgian magazine, Knack, as reported by IB Times:
We have decided to give him another campaign over there where he had a great performance. Then he will be ready to return [to Chelsea].
The Dutchman also went on to say that Chelsea will be very active in the summer transfer window after a disappointing season. With players that have been linked with moves to Chelsea such as Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic who both play in similar positions to Musonda at the centre of midfield it makes it look less likely that the Belgian will be part of Antonio Conte’s plans next season but that doesn’t mean the 19-year-old doesn’t have a future at Stamford Bridge.
After having great success with the youth team, Musonda sought after first team football and he knew the chances of that happening at Chelsea were slim.
In 2015, AS Monaco were reportedly interested in signing Musonda permanently and Marseille wanted the teenager on loan but nothing came of it and he ended up extending his contract until 2019 at Stamford Bridge.
In January, Musonda joined Real Betis on loan until the end of the season and after a number of eye-catching performances, he got regular minutes under his belt, both from starting or coming off the bench.
His first goal was against Deportivo La Coruna in a game that finished 2-2. Real Betis finish the season 10th in the league, overall it was a loan spell that saw him get game time at a high standard of football.
Despite what De Visser said, nothing regarding another loan spell in a Liga has been confirmed by either club and he could yet feature for Chelsea during the upcoming pre-season campaign.
