99% of Chelsea players want Hiddink to stay says Mikel

John Obi Mikel believes that 99% of the current Chelsea players want Guus Hiddink to stay at Chelsea beyond the end of the season.

According to ESPN, Mikel believes that most of the Blues are happier working under Hiddink, which showed following two back to back 5-1 victories at Stamford Bridge, over both Newcastle and Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Under Hiddink, Mikel has become a key member of the midfield, displacing Nemanja Matic in the deeper role to partner Cesc Fabregas. The Nigerian said:

Obviously I want him to stay, but it’s the choice of the owner, the club and the board, they will have to decide but if you ask the players, I think 98, 99 percent of them want him to stay. We’re very happy, performing well and let’s hope it continues.

Hiddink has once again enjoyed a strong interim spell as Chelsea manager, as he did in his previous spell. The Dutchman became a fan favourite after taking over in 2009.

Mikel added:

You can see it with Diego [Costa]. It takes a lot to get Diego in a good mood! It depends on the board. It depends on Guus too, whether he wants to continue. He’s said a few times he’s here until the end of the season but you never know. He might change his mind and if the club wants to appoint him, then fair enough. His record speaks very highly of him.

Both the Chelsea players and the manager will be hoping to round his season off nicely with FA Cup glory at Wembley. Chelsea progressed into the quarter-finals after beating Manchester City, and winning the competition could be the best chance of securing European football next season.
