Matic is Juventus’ second choice behind Gundogan

Chelsea have reportedly been forced to wait to find out the future of Nemanja Matic as Juventus are working on other targets as the January transfer window approaches.

The Serie A champions are looking to tempt the midfielder to the Juventus Stadium, however, he is on a shortlist with main target Ilkay Gundogan, who has an uncertain future at Borussia Dortmund.

Juventus have already had a £22 million bid for Gundogan rejected earlier on this week.

According to the Express, Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that they have not given up on trying to sign the 25-year-old midfielder. Dortmund want to keep hold of Gundogan until the summer, meaning that a move for Matic could be imminent.

Matic has been heavily criticised after Chelsea’s bad start to the season, however, he has started every game for the London club since November. Reports claimed that Guus Hiddink would like to offload the midfielder in the January transfer window, and the cash would be used to buy a player that Hiddink was targeting himself.

It is reported that Oscar is also on Massimiliano Allegri’s January list of transfer targets, which also includes AS Monaco’s Joao Moutinho, and Sampdoria’s Roberto Soriano.

However, a number of clubs are reportedly after these players, and Juventus may be forced to sign Matic if needs be.
