A fan poll run by Spanish sports newspaper Marca has indicated that supporters of the Madrid club want the troubled striker, Diego Costa to return to the Vicente Calderon.
Costa left Spain in 2014 having enjoyed a largely successful period; winning La Liga, two UEFA Super Cups and the Copa Del Rey, and his form in the 2013/14 season helped Atleti to the Champions League final.
By the end of his stay, Costa had become one of the most renowned forwards in world football and Chelsea spared no expense, forking out £32 million to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge.
Despite his injury problems which saw him start only 24 league games last season, the 27-year-old still hit an impressive 20 goals. However, since then the striker’s fortunes have gone drastically down hill, managing only three goals in 13 this season and has been accused of a lack of effort by fans.
Costa’s recent poor form has played a large role in the Blues’ struggles of late, and there has been much speculation that new manager Guus Hiddink will be looking to bring in a new striker.
As a result, the Spaniard may be on the way out of Stamford Bridge and Marca’s poll suggests that 60% of Atletico fans would welcome the striker back, in place of current striker Jackson Martinez.
