Interim Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has revealed his interest in bringing legendary striker Didier Drogba back to the club, according to The Telegraph.
The 37-year-old’s Premier League playing days may be over, but having him involved at the club in any capacity may do Chelsea the world of good. It appears as though if the Ivorian were to return, it would be in more of a behind-the-scenes role than a role on the pitch itself.
Bringing club legends like Drogba, Frank Lampard and Petr Cech back to Chelsea in a staff role after they retire is something that many fans are hopeful of. Bringing Drogba back to the club would surely delight Chelsea supporters across the globe.
Hiddink said:
All the big clubs, and the smaller ones, have these specific guys, figures, who can go into whatever they like – coach, ambassador, manager – but they must be given the opportunity to do so. They give the Chelsea brand a big image, worldwide.
Later, he was asked if Chelsea is currently in talks with Drogba in the hopes of adding him to their staff:
The official process I don’t know, but I spoke openly from the bottom of the heart that such impact players can be huge for the club. How it goes on now, it’s others who have to deal with that. Not me.
It was obvious that there might have been an interest in bringing back Drogba when the pair was seen watching the game against Sunderland last weekend at Stamford Bridge together, alongside owner Roman Abramovich. After the win, the trio strode onto the pitch and talked with some coaches and players.

It seems as though it is only a matter of time before Drogba is added to the Chelsea staff, but Hiddink did acknowledge the striker’s current situation:
He is a legend already in this club, but also outside this club in the world. So it’s nice for guys with these big hearts to connect them somehow with the club. But he is playing for Montreal, under contract.
