Besiktas agree terms with Chelsea defender

Chelsea may have only signed Papy Djilobodji from Nantes during the summer transfer window, but it looks like he is on the move again with Turkish side Besiktas leading the race for the Senegalese defender’s signature.

Speaking live on Turkish football show ‘Beyaz Futbol‘, former Besiktas sporting director Sinan Engin revealed that Besiktas have agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old centre-back. Engin also stated that the transfer is likely to take place during the upcoming January transfer window.

Djilobodji has not settled well into English football, failing to play in any league games for Chelsea this season, but his lack of game time could be down to the fact that Jose Mourinho publicly stated that it was not his decision to sign Djilobodji.

It was not my choice. It was the choice of somebody I trust completely.

With a distinct lack of game time at Stamford Bridge, it is easy to see why Djiobodji would be open to a move away from the London club. Besiktas are currently top of the Turkish league, sitting two points above Fenerbahce and five points clear of Istanbul giants Galatasaray. Besiktas could well prove to be a fruitful move for Papy Djilobodji as he would be moving to a competitive league and have a greater opportunity to improve on his potential.
