Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is ready to sell controversial striker Diego Costa as he prepares to bring two new strikers to Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Mirror.
Despite proving to be a popular figure amongst the fans, the Brazilian-born frontman returned to this campaign overweight and has been at the centre of several bust-ups on and off the pitch. His ill-disciplined character often proves to be an issue for Chelsea.
Costa has managed just two goals in 10 starts in 2015/16, with the Blues hovering dangerously above the relegation zone – 15 points behind current leaders Manchester City.
The Mirror also reports that Mourinho considered selling the Spanish international in the summer, but the lack of availability in world-class strikers prevented a move from materialising.
His former club, Atletico Madrid, were linked with the prolific goalscorer during the summer’s transfer window, as were cross-city rivals Real Madrid.
Chelsea have already been linked with moves for in-demand Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi and Atletico Madrid winger Antoine Griezmann.
The 2012 Champions League winners will, however, be forced to utilise their current forwards – the aforementioned Diego Costa, on-loan Radamel Falcao and French international Loic Remy – until the January transfer window opens.
