Former Chelsea academy graduate Josh McEachran believes that it would be beneficial for all youngsters to spend a year abroad, according to Get West London.
The England international, who now plays his football with Championship side Brentford, spent last season on loan in Holland, playing for Vitesse Arnhem.
I really enjoyed it. I got injured over there when I signed. After the winter break I was playing most weeks.
I’d advise young English players to play abroad. It’s completely different.
During his stay at the GelreDome, the 22-year-old made 19 apperances in the yellow and black jersey, but failed to net. Despite his form in front of goal, his performances were usually pretty consistent.
McEachran believed that his time away from English football helped him adapt and improve as a player, stating that every youngster should take a year away from the English game.
However, the England international is aware that breaking in to a team in France or Spain can be difficult because of their culture.
It wasn’t that hard in Holland. Everyone spoke English. My Dutch isn’t the greatest.
Culturally it was similar. I think it’d have been harder to adapt if it was in France and Spain.
In his career, McEachran has only netted three goals. The trio of which came at international level, but not for the senior team.
