Chelsea travelled to the Britannia Stadium without Jose Mourinho who was undertaking his stadium ban, handed to him by the FA.
It was the second meeting between the two sides in as many weeks, with Stoke knocking Chelsea out of the Capital One Cup not long ago.
Stoke went ahead through a well-taken goal from Marco Arnautovic in the second-half and the scored remained 1-0. Chelsea have now lost their last four away games in the Premier League.
