Chelsea target John Stones has had his contract talks with Everton delayed as the Merseyside club want the highly rated centre-back to recapture his best form before they open talks about a new deal.
Stones, who was a subject of numerous transfer bids from Chelsea in the summer, which included him handing a transfer request in, in order to force a move through to the Premier League champions only returned from injury in the defeat against Manchester United last weekend.
According to Paul Joyce from the Daily Express, Roberto Martinez is more concerned with Stones playing well rather than any possible deal which could see him move to Stamford Bridge in the forthcoming transfer window:
The focus for him is just to get back from injuries.
He’s got an incredible appetite and desire to get back to the levels he showed at the beginning of the season and at the moment the contract situation is something that we do very well here behind the scenes.
Regardless of whether Stones does sign a new contract or not, it is almost guaranteed that he will once again be the subject of renewed interest from Chelsea in January and in the summer as Mourinho looks to shore up a defence which has only kept two Premier League clean sheets so far this season.
