Chelsea can still win the Premier League season, according to England U21’s manager, Stuart Pearce.
Speaking live on talkSPORT, Pearce claims that Chelsea can still retain their title, but they must gain the confidence to do so.
This follows Chelsea’s defeat in the Champions League against Porto, and the 2-2 draw against one of Pearce’s former sides, Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Premier League champions are currently sitting in 14th place, eight points behind Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United. The dropped points on the weekend meant Chelsea missed out on the opportunity to cut the gap at the top. Chelsea will be only to seal all three points when they travel to Southampton on Saturday night, which could move them as high as 9th if other results go their way.
Pearce said:
I don’t think the points gap is a problem, but I wonder where the confidence and the form is going to come from. That will be the real colossal thing.
Pearce goes on to mention the factor that Jose Mourinho will play in the attempt to retain the title.

Can Jose Mourinho turn it around? Can he turn that spirit around within the group that they had in abundance last year? Confidence comes and goes in professional sport and, in Chelsea’s case at the moment, it’s gone. And when it’s coming back, who knows?
