The Sport Review, who quote BT Sport, are reporting that Rio Ferdinand has accused Chelsea of having no leaders in their team following the 2-1 loss to Porto last night in the Champions League.
I didn’t see players who would stand up and be counted in that way. I think they have a lot of work now to get out this group.
Andre Andre opened the scoring for Porto, however, Willian, who scored versus Newcastle at the weekend, levelled the game at 1-1 before half time.
Maicon’s second half header that found a way past Asmir Begovic to give Porto a 2-1 lead, that they held on for to win the game and continue Chelsea’s poor start to the season.

The former Manchester United and England central defender Rio Ferdinand has blamed a crucial lack of leaders in the Chelsea line-up as the reason as to why they are doing so poorly this season. Ferdinand is a player who knows exactly what it takes to succeed in the Champions League, winning it in 2008 and getting to the final in 2009 and 2011.
Ferdinand told BT Sport:
There was no composure, no real leadership out there. You look back on past Mourinho and Chelsea sides. You had Drogba, Terry and Lampard who other players could look to, and they would turn around and say, ‘listen I’ve been here before, don’t worry, follow me, we’ll be alright and get through this and weather the storm’. I didn’t see that tonight. I didn’t see players who would stand up and be counted in that way. I think they have a lot of work now to get out this group.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho left the captain John Terry on the bench for the game and his leadership from the back was evidently missed by Chelsea, who have now already lost five games in all competitions this season and need to get back to winning ways when they face Southampton this weekend.
