Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is plotting a January transfer blowout to strengthen the core of his side, according to reports.
Last weekend’s 2-0 victory against Arsenal has been the only cause for celebration so far this season, as the Blues currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, 8 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Reports in France suggest that Mourinho is interested in swooping for Marseille centre-back Nicolas N’Koulou to strengthen his defensive options. The 25 year-old’s contract is up in the summer and could be available for transfer in January, as the French club may look to cash in on the defender.
The Cameroonian international was on the radar of several Premier League clubs including rivals Arsenal, due to his current contract situation as Marseille are holding out for a fee of £7.2m.
Chelsea have also been linked to Lyon ace Alexandre Lacazette in a £25m deal. The French striker was the top scorer in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 27 goals in 33 appearances for Lyon.
Chelsea’s strike force has misfired so far this season as Diego Costa is now set for a three-match spell on the sidelines following his ban by The FA.
Reports in Italy suggest that Mourinho may move for PSG’s midfield star Blaise Matuidi as he looks to replace John Obi-Mikel. 28 year-old Matuidi may act as an alternative to long-term transfer target Paul Pogba, and could be available for £30m, half the price of Pogba’s summer valuation.
