England international John Stones is reported to request a £38m release clause to be included in any new contract Everton offer him according to Daily Mail. The central defender was a main transfer target for Chelsea over the summer and attracted numerous big money bids from the English champions.
All four bids by the Blues were rejected by Everton, much to the disappointment of Stones – who submitted a transfer request in the hope to get his dream move. It’s likely that Toffees manager Roberto Martinez will want to tie him down to a new contract, more than likely doubling his current wage of £30,000-per-week.

With Chelsea’s last bid for Stones reported to be £38m, it’s believed that he would be welcome to signing a new contract if Everton are willing to include that figure as the release clause. The defender has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge and is hoping the involved parties can all come to an agreement in the near future.
If Everton are to decline, there’s a strong possibility Stones will refuse to sign any improved contract and will be compelled to express his discontent and push for a move away next summer. It’s likely that Chelsea will return to try and sign him next summer, possibly even as early as January, but it remains to be seen if Everton have the capability to hold onto their most prized asset once again.
