Chelsea star Eden Hazard has been heavily criticised after his performance failed to impress coach Marc Wilmots in Belgium’s 1-0 win over Cyprus according to the Evening Standard.
Despite Hazard eventually scoring the winner for Belgium in the 85th minute, Wilmots was not in a celebratory mood after describing the performance as “the worst team performance I’ve seen.”
And the criticism didn’t stop there as Wilmots then slammed Hazard’s individual performance, as well as describing Liverpool striker Christian Benteke’s performance as a “half-performance,” as he was substituted at the break.
He [Hazard] was the worst tonight. I thought about substituting him, but in the last 10 minutes he always has the ability to do that, At the World Cup, this was the case. I obviously expect more from him, but he will grow as the season progresses.
The win for the Red Devils moved Belgium to within one point of Chris Coleman’s Wales, who were made to put the qualifications celebrations on hold, after a 0-0 draw with Israel.
Hazard has endured a tough start to the season after his stellar campaign last season, failing to score in Chelsea’s opening four games.
But the winger will be hoping to follow up his winner for Belgium by opening his Premier League account for the season, as the Blues face a tough trip to Everton this weekend.
