When the highly rated Jeremie Boga was sent out on loan to Ligue 1’s Rennes this season, few eyebrows were raised.
As one of Chelsea’s brightest young talents, the need for Boga to play first team football at a high level is crucial for his development, with Ligue 1 one of the more established European leagues.
However, when reports surfaced suggesting that the Ligue 1 side had reportedly negotiated a buy option at the end of the loan deal, alarm bells began to ring, especially considering the capital of Rennes’ multi-billionaire owner, François-Henri Pinault.
Whilst Pinault is not renowned for investing heavily in new players, Boga is a talent worth investing in, and reports in France suggest Pinault will definitely have to splash the cash to land the 18-year-old.
According to local source, Rennes-Maville, Boga’s ‘option to buy’ at Rennes is a staggering €40m.
It is worth noting, however, regardless of how well Boga plays over the course of the season, and we assume he’ll have an excellent season, the report does not expect Rennes to meet the €40m fee.
