Thibaut Courtois
Not much he can do about the two goals, but a fine penalty save which stopped Chelsea falling behind early doors. Arguably could’ve come and cleared when Terry was sent off but redeemed himself with a few close saves at the end and just about saw Chelsea over the line. 7/10
Branislav Ivanovic
Where do you start with this man? Three games, three poor performances. Add James McClean to the list of left wingers who have made Ivanovic look like a Sunday league full-back. Both West Brom goals sourced down his side, surely it’s time for him to be dropped for next weekend. 4/10
Kurt Zouma

In wet conditions, the young Frenchman looked uncomfortable on the ball but his pace allowed him to keep up with a tricky customer in Rondon. Caught a little bit out of position for James Morrison’s second goal but arguably the best of the defensive bunch this weekend. 7/10
John Terry
I hate to be the one to say it, but this could be the beginning of the end for Mr Chelsea. Taken off at half time last week against City and now a red card just 10 minutes after half time. Along with the rest of the back four, he simply hasn’t been good enough, but we’ve seen these times before under a certain manager and he came back stronger. Won’t rule him out just now. 5/10
Cesar Azpilicueta
Didn’t play too well defensively, especially in the opening 15/20 minutes where Callum McManaman gave him the runaround. ‘Dave’ made up for it after scoring Chelsea’s winning goal after being the man to gamble on a chest down from Diego Costa. Still doesn’t look overly comfortable on the left-hand side, but it may not be too long until we see Azpilicueta on his natural right. 7/10
Nemanja Matic
I’m not sure what’s happened to Matic. He’s had a difficult start to the season, in a huge contrast to this time last year. Giving away the penalty early doors, Matic was caught out a lot in the middle of midfield on his own. He was left to do a lot of the midfield work on his own with Fabregas being missing at times, but his performance did pick up in the second half, particularly when Chelsea went down to 10 men and had to grind out the result. Not tight enough for Morrison’s second goal, so there is still room for improvement for the big Serb. 6/10
Cesc Fabregas
Another player who’s having a huge contrast to this time last season. Cesc looked slow and sluggish again, and his passing seems off. Defensively he is a gamble in away games because he does leave Matic very exposed. Might seem a little bit critical on one of our main men from last season, but he set such high standards which he hasn’t reached since the turn of 2015. 4/10
Pedro Rodriguez
Man of the match just three days after signing for the Champions, Pedro was easily the stand-out player at the Hawthorns today. Looked to have an instant connection with Hazard, especially in scoring his goal, and his shot which led to an assist for Diego Costa and Chelsea’s second. Every time he lost the ball he showed the desire to get back and recover the ball himself and he is someone who Chelsea has arguably been lacking. A player who is very direct and isn’t afraid to shoot. Can only hope things get better from here. 9/10
Willian
Before being replaced by Gary Cahill after 55 minutes due to John Terry’s red card, Willian offered very little. Playing in a more central role today in behind Costa, he once again offered very little going forward, missing a sitter just 8 yards out after some more good work from Pedro. At the moment, he’s lucky Oscar is injured because out of the midfield three, he’d probably be the one to miss out on the first three performances. 5/10
Eden Hazard
I feel like I’m being very, very negative after our first win of the season, but, for me, Hazard wasn’t good enough again. Looked quiet every time he got the ball and I can’t recall any goal scoring opportunities he created at the Hawthorns today. He’s another player who’s set such high standards, but he’s yet to even get half way to that. 5/10
Diego Costa
Much better from Costa. Last week at City he was aggressive but in the wrong manner. Today, he used it to his advantage. He was strong and physical against a difficult West Brom defence and picked up his first goal of the season. His assist for Azpilicueta’s goal showed the strengths to his game, and we can only hope he carries on from here. 8/10
Substitutes
Gary Cahill –
Unlucky to be dropped from the starting 11 in my opinion, but was forced on after John Terry’s red card just before the hour mark. Sporting the infamous Zorro mask, Cahill came in when Chelsea looked a little shaky and showed real leadership qualities, commanding the box and winning almost every ball that was put into his area in the box. Much better from Cahill and he will be the leader at the back whilst Terry is out. 6/10
Radamel Falcao
Difficult to judge Falcao on another 10-minute cameo, but he didn’t look sharp. Only really had one chance, laid up again by Pedro, but couldn’t convert under pressure from the West Brom defenders. N/A
John Obi Mikel –
Came on with a few minutes to go in his cameo role alongside Matic, and won a few tackles and just solidified the midfield. Could get used to seeing this again this season. N/A
