Italian side Genoa are set to hurry their deal to sign Chelsea starlet Nathan Ake, as they hope to dispell rival interest, claim Gazzetta dello Sport.
Ake was their second choice, behind Nicolai Boilesen of Ajax, but the latter has turned them away, hoping instead to seal a move to Aston Villa to play in the Premier League.
The young versatile centre-back has made a handful of appearances for Chelsea, but he’s not of the standard to hold down a first-team spot as of yet, so Genoa are keen to take him on loan.
They’re hoping to tie Ake down as soon as possible so they don’t have a repeat of the Boilesen situation and miss out. Gazzetta claims that there are a number of Bundesliga clubs looking into the services of Ake, so the Serie A side need to act fast.
Having already sealed loan deals for Manchester City’s Ntcham on loan, Genoa hope to bring more youngsters to Italy from the Premier League. If Ake departs this summer, he’ll be joining the long list of youngsters to leave Chelsea this summer on loan.
Gazzetta dello Sport also claim that Genoa see Ake as a similar player to former Chelsea star Ruud Gullit – so they’ll be hoping the youngster can emulate his kind of performances.
