Chelsea Step up Pursuit of Baba Rahman

It is believed Chelsea are in pole position to sign Ghana and FC Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman, with personal terms having been agreed. This is according to a highly reliable source in the shape of Gianluca Di Marzio, who believes Chelsea have agreed a five-year contract with the player with a net worth of €2 million a season.

Such a figure seems realistic, translating to roughly around £55-60k per week before taxes. It was believed Chelsea’s nearest rivals for Rahman’s signature were AS Roma but recent reports state they are in advanced negotiations to sign Barcelona fullback Adriano with the Brazilian’s representative stating his client feels “it’s time for a change.”

However according to Augsburg chairman Jonas Hoffman, the club are under no pressure to sell with after speaking to German publication Bild:

We do not need the Baba millions. We have a good, solid team here. I am very optimistic that Baba will continue his great performances with us. He’s made a very good impression at our recent training camp.”

“Why keep Baba? I am an Augsburg fan. To me, it’s more important that I spend the evening watching Augsburg win with a beer in my hand than when we have more money in the bank account.”

Once more it seems Augsburg will be demanding a figure equal to the transfer of Filipe Luis to Atlético with Hoffman maintaining a determined stance to keep the player:

“There’s no need to even talk about an offer under €20m, as I’ve previously stated.”

While such a figure may seem inflated for a player who is far from the finished article and quite raw in his approach, Baba Rahman is contracted with the Bavarian side until June 2019 after signing from Greuther Furth twelve months ago.
