Pedro Rodriguez has found game time somewhat limited of late, leading to speculation of a move away from the Camp Nou with Chelsea reported as front-runners for the Spaniard.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Pedro is on the brink of signing for Premier League champions Chelsea in a shock transfer. Sport boasts a highly respectable profile and were the first outlet to report Arda Turan’s transfer to Barcelona. Now it seems that very transfer will push Pedro out of the Camp Nou.
Indeed while a transfer to Chelsea may not have been on the cards, Pedro had seemingly prepared for a move away with the extension of his contract this past season. A key component of the contract was the reduction of his buyout clause from a hefty €150 million to €30 million, making the Spanish international a far more attractive option on the market.
The winger only made 25 starts in all competitions this past season and saw his game time marginalised with the recent acquisitions of Neymar and Luis Suarez. Now Sport believe Pedro has also sought assurances from fellow La Masia graduate and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas, whether a move to Stamford Bridge is a viable option.
A potential stumbling block concerned the language barrier but the 27-year-old has been reassured by Fàbregas that Spanish-speaking team-mates such as himself, Courtois, Diego Costa and César Azpilicueta will bridge such a gap. Such assurances have left Chelsea confident of beating Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG to secure the Spaniards signature.
