According to The Times, Chelsea were planning to offer Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid as part of a deal for defender Toby Alderweireld. But Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur has this morning stated that is not the case. He reports that the Spanish side are offering Alderweireld to the Blues in a bid to bring back Luis.
Alderweireld was on loan at Southampton last season and established himself as a key member of the team by playing in 26 league matches. As per the loan deal, The Saints have an option to sign the Belgian international on a permanent transfer for £7 million.
The Times state that Southampton will be taking up that offer but Atletico can activate a counter-clause by paying £3 million in compensation to them. This would then allow the La Liga side to move Alderweireld on elsewhere. The defender has already spoken warmly about the prospect of staying in the Premier League.
Filipe Luis, on the other hand, made only nine starts for Chelsea following his move to Stamford Bridge last summer but it remains to be seen if he will welcome a move back to Spain.
