Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Augsburg left back Abdul Baba Rahman according to the Mirror. The Ghanaian had an impressive season for the German side and has attracted the attention of Jose Mourinho. The rumours suggest that Chelsea will have to pay in the region of £15 million if they want to acquire the 20 year old’s services.
The current left-backs at Chelsea are Filipe Luis and Cesar Azpilicueta, with the Azpilicueta featuring more prominently out of the two. Luis has seen his chances become limited at Stamford Bridge and recently admitted to being unsure about his future after making only nine appearances. The Brazilian has been linked with a return to his former side, Atletico Madrid.
Baba Rahman caught the eye of scouts around Europe after contributing to Augsburg’s impressive Bundesliga campaign, a campaign in which they finished fifth and secured European qualification.
The left back is thought to welcome a move to a team where he is guaranteed regular first team football, something that may not be possible at Chelsea. But it is understood that the player is keen on following the footsteps of a certain Michael Essien, as well as working the appeal of under Jose Mourinho.
