Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been awarded an OBE, the Order of the British Empire, in the Queen’s birthday honours list. Lampard played over 400 matches for Chelsea after joining from West Ham United. He scored over 100 goals for the Blues before moving to Manchester City for a short period. He finished as runner up in the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2005 behind Brazilian legend Ronaldinho during a fantastic career.
He also accumulated 106 international caps for England, scoring 29 goals. Upon receiving the award, the Telegraph are reporting that Lampard said: “I am delighted to receive this huge honour. I feel very fortunate to have had such a long and fulfilling career in football. This is an extremely proud moment for myself and my family.”
Lampard will add this award to the numerous other medals he has won including the Premier League and Champions League winners medal. The OBE is another proud achievement Frank Lampard will take with him to the MLS when he joins up with New York City.
