Jose Mourinho has distanced Chelsea with a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann amid reports they could be prepared to meet the player’s buyout price.
The 24-year-old has a £43.5m release clause in his contract but only joined Atletico from Real Sociedad last summer.
Griezmann scored 25 goals in 44 starts in his first season at Atletico Madrid, but Mourinho is quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca as saying: “Griezmann is a great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season. We are not interested.”
The player also insisted he is happy to remain at the Vicente Calderon saying: “I do not know interest from other clubs is true or not because they are rumours. I am happy at Atletico.”
