In an interview with Squawka, Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm revealed that his perfect midfielder would have the dribbling ability of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
Following a move to central midfielder after being one of the best full-backs in the world over the past decade, Lahm has a greater knowledge of what is required from a midfielder.
Bayern boss, Pep Guardiola, recognised Lahm’s versatility and technique when he took over at the Allianz Arena, and pushed the former full-back into a holding midfield role.
When asked in the interview how he would create the perfect midfielder, the German replied, “Maybe Lionel Messi’s left foot could be a starting point – although his right one isn’t bad either.
“The right foot? Maybe Schweinsteiger or Iniesta’s? They could have Xavi’s vision, Xabi Alonso’s passing, Eden Hazard’s dribbling. Who have I missed out?”
Lahm then went on to say how his perfect midfielder would have the tackling ability of Bayern goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer – who is widely regarded as the worlds best goalkeeper.
Hazard’s inclusion amongst these European greats is yet another indication of what a superb season it has been for the Belgian.
His performances were an integral part of the clubs success this season; with the Blues winning the Barclays Premier League, as well as the Capital One Cup.
The Chelsea midfielder completed more take-ons (180) than any other player from Europe’s top five leagues this season.
