According to The Mirror, Italian side Fiorentina are trying to keep Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah in Florence for another season. However, the Viola are reportedly in competition with Tottenham for the Egyption winger’s services beyond this season.
Salah, who failed to impress for most of his one year stay at Stamford Bridge after being signed in January of 2014 from FC Basel for a fee of £11 million. The 22-year-old was shipped to Serie A on loan in January in favour of former Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado, and rumour has it that Chelsea are more keen to sell Salah abroad or loan him out for another season than they are on selling him to a domestic rival the likes of Spurs.
Salah managed just 30 minutes of Premier League action this season prior to his loan to Fiorentina, but since his arrival in Italy he has tallied nine goals to go along with three assists, with six goals and a pair of those assists coming in Serie A competition. The Egyptian undoubtedly infused energy into a Fiorentina side that finished fifth in the Serie A standings and made it to the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League before bowing out to Sevilla.
Another season at Fiorentina would allow Salah to try and build on the momentum he established in the second half of the campaign, but a move to Spurs could see him back in London and playing for a Premier League side once again.
