Chelsea manager José Mourinho was featured on the BBC’s Football Focus show on Saturday, and the Special One reaffirmed his commitment to the club and owner Roman Abromovich, as he has done several times before this season.
After returning to Chelsea in 2013 following five years managing in Italy with Inter Milan and in Spain with Real Madrid, Mourinho has said that he is at Stamford Bridge for the long haul this time around. The Portuguese said that he could see himself managing another club one day, specifically another English club, but until Abromovich deems him unfit to manage in SW6, Mourinho says he will remain in charge of the Blues.
“The day Mr Abramovich thinks I’m not good enough for Chelsea, I want to work, and if possible in England too,” Mourinho said. “I see myself coaching another club [in the future], yes, but I love Chelsea and I am in Mr. Abramovich’s hands and until then I’m here.”
Mourinho’s first spell in West London, which included two Premier League titles to go along with an FA Cup triumph and a pair of League Cups, ended in large part due to tension between José and Abromovich. That relationship seems to be on a much better course since the beginning of Mourinho’s second spell, though, as evidenced by the manager’s proclaimed loyalty to his owner. An overhaul of the squad and a two-trophy season in 2014-15 have certainly helped that dynamic, and Chelsea will be awarded the Premier League trophy for the third time under Mourinho’s watch after Sunday’s season finale against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
With the club in a position to spend big this summer and having a promising group of youth players, things are looking up for the future for Mourinho and Chelsea. So much so, in fact, that he even said that an offer of twice his wages at CFC would not be enough to lure him away from West London. Of course, talks of an extension to his current deal with the Blues have been in the news for some time now, so his wages appear to be set for an increase as it is.
The ultra competitive Mourinho will enjoy the party atmosphere on Sunday and in Monday’s champions parade, but then his focus will surely turn to next season and maintaining Chelsea’s place atop the Premiership.
