Chelsea are planning a transfer swoop for Manchester City forward, Edin Dzeko, according to The Mirror.
Jose Mourinho will be without the muscularity of Didier Drogba, when the Ivorian’s contract expires next month, and Edin Dzeko could be brought in as a like for like change.
The Bosnian international would be the ideal replacement for Drogba, and the 29-year-old has found playing minutes hard to get at the Etihad this season.
A fee of around £15m has been quoted when Juventus were showing interest, but Jose Mourinho and the West London club are ready to bid £10m.
Manchester City will be reluctant to sell to another Premier League club, especially the one that has just taken the Premier League crown from them.
Despite signing a four-year-deal in the Summer, Dzeko has had a season that is far off being impressive.
Scoring only 6 goals, he has now fallen down the pecking order yet again, as Wilfired Bony was signed from Swansea in January.
Dzeko signed for Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2011 for £27m.
Jose Mourinho will be looking for a player who can ease the pressure off Diego Costa, so the Spaniard isn’t carrying the team next season. With Drogba on his way out, and Loic Remy not being able to maintain match fitness, Dzeko could be that man.
The knack Dzeko has of scoring ‘big goals’ has caught the eye of the Chelsea hierarchy.
