Finally, Chelsea have been crowned champions after a 1-0 win over Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace. The title has been coming and it has only been a matter of when, not if. Eden Hazard was on hand again to give Chelsea the win, and send the fans into celebrations. Here are my four things we found out from today:
Performances, not entertainment:
At this point in the season, wins are far more important than entertaining football, especially on days like today were winning the title is on the line. Knowing a win today would crown his side champions, Jose Mourinho was far more focused on a win, rather than playing football that fans want to see. In all honesty, the fans wouldn’t mind that. We weren’t in danger of losing the game, we had Crystal Palace where we wanted them. Bar a few attacks in the first half, we were extremely dominant and compact. Now, Chelsea will want to keep it going, not slipping up. Mourinho will want his team to finish the season at their best, starting at home to Liverpool.
Hazard strikes once again:
I don’t know what more I can say about our little Belgian magician. Simply put, one of, if not the best Premier League player this season. He’s at it again, driving at defenders and winning set-pieces and in this case, a penalty. Despite missing it, he got the ball in the net and that’s the most important. He’s clearly enjoying his football in West London, and under Jose Mourinho. We only have more to come from Hazard, and this is something I am sure ALL Chelsea fans are excited for.
Fans need to support their team:
If there is one downer I have to take from the game today, it’s the home support. Picture it. You have taken the lead at home in a game which you can win the title in. Do you celebrate and cheer on your team until the final whistle? Course. Did that happen today, or the most of the season? No. Chelsea fans have been criticised for the atmosphere at home, including from Jose. It is something we need to buck our ideas on, and get supporting our team. You didn’t really hear the fans until the last few minutes, when champion status was all but confirmed.
CHAMPIONS:
Finally, something we have been waiting on since day one. The day where we can officially call our boys the champions of England. We have deserved it from the get go, and that is that. Now, we celebrate. Next, look to our game at Liverpool & co, and really give a push for the final few games. We then go again in the summer, and show the world what champions we really are. Carefree!
