He saw off competition from the likes of Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez to be crowned the best player in the Premier League this season. Hazard joins an elite few, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Wayne Rooney whom are all previous winners.
Hazard was the bookies favourite to win the award and delivered after the Belgian was voted the stand out winner courtesy of his fellow professionals. The award comes not long after his manager, Jose Mourinho lauded a £200m price tag over Hazard’s head after news of Real Madrid’s interest stepped up. Chelsea and Hazard were celebrating after their draw earlier today against Arsenal, which left Arsene Wenger to admit defeat in the title race. Chelsea still require two wins to clinch the Premier League, with the earliest chance now coming against Crystal Palace.
Since joining from Lille, the winger has continuously taken his game to another level season upon season. As well as this, Hazard has matured immensely under the management of Jose Mourinho. The ‘Special One’ deserves tremendous credit as well as Hazard for improving the winger’s all round game. Since the very beginning of the season, Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s stand out player. He has scored eighteen goals and accumulated ten assists in all competitions this season. His consistency has driven Chelsea towards their first Premier League title under Mourinho in his second stint at the club, as Hazard continues to make the £32m Chelsea paid for him, a bargain.
Hazard was also amongst the awards earlier in the day. He, alongside team mates, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Ivanovic, Matic and Diego Costa were all named in the PFA Team of the Year.
