Shortly after wining the famous award of Championship Player of The Year, Patrick Bamford has spoken of desire to play for Chelsea next season. Bamford however is not content with just a place in the squad. The young striker has stated he does not wish to sit on the bench at Stamford Bridge. Speaking after picking up his award, he told SkySportsNews: “I want to play for Chelsea, I hope I do get that chance and I think I can compete”. He went on to add: “A lot of people said I left Nottingham Forest for the wrong reasons, but that wasn’t true. I wanted to play for a top team like Chelsea. However, after two years regularly playing out on loan, going back and sitting on the bench wouldn’t really help me.”
Next season will be Bamford’s biggest test during his football career. This season in the Premier League we have seen the likes of Charlie Austin and Danny Ings who have both scored goals for fun in the Football League, step up and score for their respective sides on the biggest stages. Bamford will have to prove he can do the same. The striker started pre-season with Chelsea and is likely to do the same next season, in which his future will be decided. The Blue’s may look to use a similar approach to that they have used to slowly bed in Kurt Zouma this season. A loan move to a Premier League side could also be an option.
As well as Patrick Bamford, the agent of Marco Van Ginkel has confirmed the midfielder is keen to return to Chelsea next season. The Dutch midfielder has spent the season on loan at AC Milan. After initially struggling in Italy, Van Ginkel is now a regular in Filippo Inzaghi’s side. According to The Guardian, Karel Jansen quoted: “We don’t know yet – his future is unclear at the moment, He is now playing regularly for Milan but we still have to discuss next season with Chelsea. I think it will be decided next month or by the start of the transfer window. But there is no pressure. “ Jansen went on to say: “The goal for Marco is to return to Chelsea so we will see what happens. It is all dependable on what they want to do.”
The midfielder arrived from Vitesse in 2013 for £8m. He made a handful of appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Swindon Town in the Capital One Cup. The injury would keep him out for almost all of the season.
